And my favorite song of 2009 is...
“Work” by Junior Boys. Just perfect.
Of course, there’s no official video for it, but you can listen to it on YouTube here. And here they are performing it live (in Atlanta, at a show I should have attended but didn’t):
The Final Countdown...
Is this going through your head now? Sorry…
Anyway, I’m about to hit the road for several days of driving and visiting and so on, so why not finish up my Top 20 of the year here? Picking up where we left off…
9. “I Do Not Hook Up” by Kelly Clarkson
8. “When Love Takes Over” by David Guetta feat. Kelly Rowland
7. “Bulletproof” by La Roux
6....
Note to Self
Please, let’s not discuss why all of my “notes to self” involve my furtive recording of wine/liquor bottle labels…that is between me and my 12-step support group.
Segura Viudas Pinot Noir Aria Brut (sparkling).
Y’all—this junk was good.

Call me “M-Train.”
Spelling
Tim: Help me find the right word here [for a semi-scolding email he's writing]--"I don't want to sound like a complete ___"
Me: Prude?
Tim: No.
Me: Killjoy?
Tim: No.
Me: How about "dictator"?
Tim: No, I really don't want to use that one.
Me: But if you spell it D-I-C-K T-A-T-E-R it will be hilarious and lighten the mood.
Kylie Live in NYC! Recorded the night I was there! →
This is an iTunes link to the live album, recorded on October 13—the night we were in the audience!
TeuxDeux →
I try out any kind of online to-do list that comes down the pike, and I still haven’t found one I like. I’m currently using this one—despite the silly name—and it’s pretty good. It doesn’t have a phone app to sync with, though, so it’s far from perfect.
School is Awesome
Today, one of my male students insisted on entertaining the class with his dance routine—it involved the jerk and the stanky leg and the wearing of a Cookie Monster hoodie—while three of my female students sang an acapella version of “Music” by Madonna. Never let anyone tell you that gifted students are all bookworms and nerds!
My Favorites of the Year: Numbers 15-11
Yikes, I’m running behind on this countdown stuff. Stupid work, all getting in the way and stuff. Anyway, here are the next five on my list, complete with video links. Top ten coming next week, along with (I hope) some sort of Megamix action.
15. “Love Story” by Taylor Swift
14. “Home” By Paul van Dyk
13. “Feelings Gone” by Basement Jaxx with Sam...
THE HORRORS OF IT ALL →
A great site filled with full scans of old horror comics—the kinds of things that I used to love to read even though they would freak me out and give me full-on nightmares.
New Ian McEwan: "The Use of Poetry" →
This seems to be an excerpt from his forthcoming novel, called Solar (lots of vaguely spoiler-ish plot details are in this interview). I’m always excited about the prospect of a new McEwan book!
The Quick + Dirty Dirty · The problem with pizza... →
A quick review in praise of my favorite pizza in Atlanta (which also happens to be less than a mile away from my home): Shorty’s.
The 2009 Good Gift Games List →
I look forward to this list every year—I see a lot of stuff I need to have! (I’m definitely getting the expansion pack for Pandemic—a game we should have been playing more this year not only because of its timeliness but because it was pretty damn fun.)
