Porch Swings

Good grief—if the craziness of yesterday (combined with our oppressive heat and humidity down here) wasn’t an excuse to start drinking, then I don’t know what is. So here’s my gift to you—a great cocktail recipe that I found while looking at a link from Freakgirl about Pimm’s (someone had posted it in the comments, and it sounded too good to pass up). I had never had Pimm’s before until last night, but I have to say that I am definitely a fan, thanks to this concoction. This drink is smooth, tastes great, and can be gulped or sipped, depending on how hot it is. I adapted the proportions to make a slightly larger finished product and to match the measurements on my liquor measurer-thing. It will sneak up on you, though, so be careful!

Porch Swing (from Blue Smoke restaurant)

Combine the following ingredients:

  • 3/4 oz. gin (we use Hendrick’s, which seriously tastes better than any other gin we’ve ever tried)
  • 3/4 oz. Pimm’s #1
  • 6 oz. lemonade (we used that Simply Lemonade stuff from the grocery store)

Stir, pour over ice, and add a healthy splash of Sprite or 7-Up. Drop a couple of thinly-sliced cucumber half-moons in (these make a subtle but important contribution to the flavor, I think), give it one more stir, and enjoy!

The final product (looks like sweet tea, doesn’t it?):
