I try out any kind of online to-do list that comes down the pike, and I still haven’t found one I like. I’m currently using this one—despite the silly name—and it’s pretty good. It doesn’t have a phone app to sync with, though, so it’s far from perfect.

Today, one of my male students insisted on entertaining the class with his dance routine—it involved the jerk and the stanky leg and the wearing of a Cookie Monster hoodie—while three of my female students sang an acapella version of “Music” by Madonna. Never let anyone tell you that gifted students are all bookworms and nerds!

My favorite tunes of 2009: #20 “Acapella” by Kelis

Between now and the end of the year, I am going to post my favorite songs of 2009 on a pretty-much-daily basis. I’ll be moving from 20 all the way to number 1, Casey Kasem-stizz. I’m starting with kind of a cheat, since this is actually a leaked single that won’t be out until 2010, but it’s been playing in my car a LOT in the last couple of weeks and has grabbed my ear so firmly that I feel like it deserves a spot on this countdown. I love Kelis and her willingness to go nuts every now and then (see the awesome “Young, Fresh & New”), and David Guetta continues his streak of making almost-edgy (but not really) dance-pop for the masses here. Plus, I am a sucker for any song that works an extended metaphor to the bone, yo.

So a couple of the blogs I read were talking about the insanity of the new R. Kelly album that’s supposed to “drop” (does anyone use that term without quotation marks? Really?) next week or in January or something like that, and I just had to go and check it out for myself.

Y’all. It’s so crazy-hilarious that I can’t even begin to describe it. But there are also two straight-up 4/4 dance tracks on it! This guy is an evil genius.
